Redeyef is a town in south-western Tunisia, built on phosphate-rich soil, which became one of the country's most important mining centres in 1900.
Throughout last century, it was the scene of intense exploitation and countless union uprisings.
Siwa Platform met Redeyef in 2011, in the midst of a decisive period of mobilisation during which the inhabitants, who had been struggling for three years, pushed aside the authorities and took charge of their own affairs.
In 2014, L’Economat (the commissary), the former miners' general shop, was reinvested. Since then, the building has been maintained collectively, in place of an artistic and civic laboratory within the city.
Here, 3 musical repertoires intermingle and cohabit spontaneously: laments of the Bedouin tribes (in particular Ouled Sidi Abid, Ouled Esmaia, Ouled Slama), mining work songs and poems, Sufi psalmodies.
This collection, made in close collaboration with the inhabitants, give voice to some of the singular, committed and multiple voices of Redeyef.

UQSYMERE
